Happy New Year! Let's ring in the new year with some new style tips. We've posted some of our blowdry hacks last year and in this post, we're going to expand on our first hack – choosing the right tools. There are many different types of brushes, so let's break it down for you! Round Brushes 1. Large Round Brush Large round brushes are great for longer hair. They control more hair at once. These will give you a smoother, straighter finish. 2. Medium Round Brush Medium brushes are perfect for shorter to medium length hair and are also the most common size brush. They are easier to manage than the large brush and will help you easily smooth the root out, give you more body and curve at the ends. 3. Small Round Small round brushes are perfect for short and pixi length hair. Small round brushes also give the most volume at the root. Bristle Type 1. Boar Bristle Smoothest. Great for smoothing curls and unruly baby hairs around the face. 2. Nylon Great for smoothing and curling hair 3. Plastic with rounded tips Tend to snag the hair with less control Ceramic vs Metal Coated When choosing a brush, make sure you choose a ceramic brush as metal can burn the hair. Additional Tips We like to use multiple brushes for the different areas of the head. We recommend using small to medium sized round brushes at the base of your head and then switching to either medium or large round brushes (depending on your hair length) for the ends. Nylon with ceramic base brushes are our favorite. They smooth the hair, control volume and shape. They glide through the hair with no issues. The concave design also gives more grip onto the hair. How do I get a salon-style blow-dry at home? This is a question we frequently get asked by clients! We've got you covered with 5 super easy blow-dry hacks to help you achieve all of your hair goals at home in between your appointments! Blowdry Hack 1: Choose the Right Tools A good blowout starts with a good round brush. As hairdressers, we are always on the lookout for the next best brush. Right now we are obsessing with the Olivia Garden Speed XL Collection. This brush holds more hair on the brush, holds firm but not uncomfortable, and adds a beautiful smooth shine to the hair. Blowdry Hack 2: Use the Right Products The next step to your perfect blowout is selecting the right products for you. We cannot live without a good smoothing cream, and Daily Keratin is our most recent love. It adds just enough weight to the hair to keep it tamed all day long, is perfect for everyone, and pairs well with any styling products. You can always as your stylist for product recommendations and for our Kevin.Murphy lovers, you can use their Matchmaker Quiz! Blowdry Hack 3: Rough It A common mistake when blowdrying your hair is going in too early with a brush when it is still wet. Rough dry your hair for a few minutes until it is about 80% dry, and then go in with your ceramic round brush. This will ensure an even blowout and you won't leave your house with wet clumps of hair. Blowdry Hack 4: Section, Section, Section! If you're pressed for time, you might be tempted to take large sections of hair to dry it the quickest. Take the time to section your hair into manageable parts to ensure a smooth blow-dry every time. Blowdry Hack 5: Set It Once you have sectioned and blow-dried to perfection, set your look with a flexible setting spray to ensure it lasts all day long without that crunchy feel. The frequency of your color appointments depends on your color service and hair type: 1. Retouch (root coverage for grey/regrowth) 2-8 weeks, depending on growth and grey percentage. 2. Toner: 3-6 weeks, depending on how often you wash your hair 3. Glossings: 4-8 weeks 4, Full Highlight: 8-12 weeks, we recommend a partial foil every other visit 5. Balayage: 8-12 weeks How often should I deep condition*? You can deep condition your hair once a week to one time a month, depending on the dryness and damage to your hair. How often should I cut my hair*? 1. Short cut: every 4 weeks 2. Medium length: every 6-8 weeks 3. Long: every 8 weeks How often should I use my purple shampoo*? 1. Warm/natural blonde tones: every 3-4 washes 2. Silver + grey tones: every or every other wash (as needed!) 3.
